Karine Rashkovsky, Ph.D., was born in the city that echoes artistic heartbeats across time and space: Paris, France. While an artist at heart, Karine has pursued creative thinking in both the studio and in academia. Both Karine’s scholarly research and art reflect the deconstructing of various ideologies and perspectives, including: existentialism, ontology, social justice, feminism, and the separation of self from nature—revealing the artist’s philosophical influences and inclinations. Complimenting her artistic and academic pursuits is her life-long passion and talent in music (classically trained under the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto; currently in an award-winning musical collaboration www.pasttherubicon.com).
Karine strives to catalyze a burst of imaginative possibility and simultaneously capture a deep moment of art speaking to the subconscious. Moreover, Karine intends to let the viewer find ongoing new interpretations. Her use of bright colours and bold contrasts reinforce the idea of an alternate reality, and methods are mixed, demonstrating a surrealist approach: she uses classical Renaissance oil technique with modern leanings to form—at times abandoning structure in favour of creating real-but-not-real dreaminess.
